Message from Our Executive Director

Welcome to our first eNewsletter.  We’ve been busy in the happiest of ways, and we can't wait to share more about what we've been up to.  Take a minute to learn more about the impact your support is having on our programs -- and if you're inspired, please forward this update to friends, coworkers, or family who may not know about the valuable work JJ's Legacy is doing in our community.  As always, thank you so much for your valued support and stay with us as we report on the big things we have in store for 2023!
-Lori

Sending a special 'Thank YOU!' to my husband, Bob - the Golf Chairman, our biggest supporter, and my best friend.

Join Us at The Gala!
This year’s event is coming right up!  Join us on April 22nd as we gather at one of Bakersfield’s historic Stockdale Country Club.  Steeped in our city’s rich tradition, the venue will be the site of this year’s celebration and inspiration.

This year’s theme is Hollywood Glam and we’ve made a few format changes in the event.  We’re replacing our Live Auction with Fund-A-Need projects, including the establishment of two new Comfort Rooms, one at the new Dignity Health, Mercy Southwest Hospital, and one at Mercy Hospital Downtown.  Other high-priority projects will also be showcased for support.

Limited sponsorships, tables, and individual tickets are available.  Share the link with your friends and coworkers.  It's going to be a beautiful night under the stars as we honor the courage and hope of our local organ transplant community.

We’d love to see you this year – brought to you by Kern Medical and Adventist Health.

2022 Program Milestones
Thanks to the generous support of our financial donors, we celebrated 2022 with some pretty incredible program milestones!  We're proud to feature the progress we're making on growing our programs.
  • In 2022, we granted $47,000 in medical assistance to the organ recipient community.  That’s seven times what we were able to provide in 2021 (during COVID restrictions), and three times what we were able to grant in 2020.
  • Last year, we doubled the number of Fresh Food Boxes provided to Kern County residents awaiting an organ transplant.  157 boxes packed with fresh fruit, vegetables, and local-sourced meat were distributed to families dealing with food insecurity due to health reasons.  That’s up from 84 boxes in 2021.
  • We provided more than double the number of Gas Cards to assist with medical transportation in 2022.  Forty-nine $50 Cards were distributed last year.  Up from twenty in 2021.
Stay with us as our staff and volunteers work to make 2023 our best year yet!
SUPPORT A PROGRAM TODAY!
Welcome Flor Hull
Flor Hull joined JJ’s Legacy in 2022 as our Community Outreach Coordinator.  She works daily with our organ recipient/donor community to determine needs and provide support/assistance.  You’ll also find her introducing our programs to medical offices in our area in our ongoing effort to educate on the programs we offer.

She comes to us with years of experience in the communication field.  This experience, combined with strong roots in the local Hispanic community, and a heart of gold bring sunshine to the JJ’s office and to the organ transplant community we serve every day.  With her assistance, we're also learning about what new programs are needed to help our donor community.

Flor is married and has four children, six grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
